Lakers News: European-Born All-Star Believes He's Bigger In His Home Country Than LeBron James

It's hard to compare to James but this makes some sense.

LeBron James is one of the biggest celebrities in the entire world. Since his arrival in the NBA back in 2003, James has been directly in the spotlight, and it has been impressive to see him handle the pressures and stresses that come with fame throughout his career.

His ability to bring in crowds when he takes the court is unlike anything that we have seen in a long time, if ever.

Even internationally, James can draw in millions of people. He is still the face of the NBA, even if he isn’t considered the best player in the league any longer.

But one of his fellow NBA players believes that he is a bigger deal in his home country than James is in the United States.

Giannis Antetokounmpo is a superstar in his own right and in his home country of Greece, he is seen as a massive celebrity.

"The way LeBron James is or Michael Jordan is for the States, the same way I am for Greece," Antetokounmpo said, per Tania Ganguli of the

New York Times

. "Maybe larger."

Like James, his home country sees him as special, so his claim makes sense. James has to compete with other star players in the United States while Antetokounmpo is one of the faces of sports in Greece.

Antetokounmpo is one of the best players in the NBA and is a star within the US as well. But that is nothing compared to the love that he gets from Greece.

It’s an awesome thing to have an entire country backing you, especially when you are one of the few who is talented enough to make it to the professional leagues in the US.
