Lakers News: Former Finals Nemesis Mocks LA’s Free Agent Signings

He is not sold!
In this story:

Everybody can take a look at all the Los Angeles Lakers were able to accomplish and see that they took a different approach than usual. The general stigma around LA's franchise is that they only shoot for the big-name players and marquee superstars when they hit free agency.

However, we saw what happened the last time they made a massive offseason trade for Russell Westbrook and the time of struggles that followed. Therefore, they know that LeBron James and Anthony Davis are still one of the best duo's in the league when healthy and made it their top priority to get just get role players that fit around them.

But we know that so many opposing fanbases and even former players of rival franchises hold the Lakers to super-high expectations and want to see them fail even after a great season. Retired Celtics champion Paul Pierce joined Rachel Nichols on Showtime Basketball and had a pretty sarcastic response to a number of LA's free agency signings.

First, he was told that the purple and gold landed Gabe Vincent.

"Oh yeah, that's gonna take them over the top," said Pierce.

Then, the news of Cam Reddish was shared.

"Oh my god," said Pierce. "You guys said some crazy names."

Jaxson Hayes was the third name brought up.

"Oh they hit it out of the park," said Pierce. "Oh my goodness."

And finally, Pierce was told that the Lakers had successfully resigned Rui Hachimura and Austin Reaves and he finally shared some of his true feelings.

"Oh my goodness, geez I'm scared," said Pierce. "You guys ain't tell me nothing. They really hit the ball out of the park with this free agency, huh? Come on y'all, come on man."

Lakers fans should not take Pierce's comments too seriously seeing how they know how this group can perform when playing at their highest level and the moves the front office made this summer only made their squad deeper.
