Lakers News: Former LA Forward Nominated To His Local Basketball Hall Of Fame
Former Laker and future first-ballot Hall-of-Famer Carmelo Anthony, who donned the purple and gold during the 2021-2022 campaign, has made basketball headlines for his induction to the New York City Basketball Hall of Fame.
Many remember Anthony for his time with the New York Knicks, where he played from 2011-2017, and was an All-Star every season. Along with being a 2x All-NBA selection, he was the recipient of the 2013 scoring title.
Melo's ties to New York actually run far deeper than his time as a Knick, however, as he spent the first 8 years of his life in the Red Hook housing projects of Brooklyn, and later returned to the Empire State for his college basketball career.
Anthony played his one-and-done college career at Syracuse, under legendary Head Coach Jim Boeheim. While there, he had a legendary college career. After being named an All-American, and winning the USBWA National Freshman of the Year award—he also won the NCAA Championship and the Final Four Most Outstanding Player. His No. 15 jersey has since been retired by Cuse.
Given Melo's deep ties to the state of New York, it's no surprise that he finds himself headlining the 2024 Hall of Fame class.
Despite retiring back in May, the former superstar has found himself staying relevant in the basketball world. His son, Kiyan Anthony, is a top prospect in his graduating class, while Melo himself has also hinted (likely jokingly) at a return for the 2024 Olympics.
