Lakers News: Hall Of Famer Discusses Odyssey To Make LA Legend's Upcoming Documentary

All about the history!

Some of the earliest fans of basketball and of the NBA when it first started to grow in popularity look back at all of the first superstars they watched dominate the game and pay their due to Wilt Chamberlain always. Chamberlain split his playing career among three teams as he spent his first six years with the Golden State Warriors, then four with the Philadelphia 76ers and ended his final five seasons with the Los Angeles Lakers where he helped them win a title in 1972.

Even though opposing fanbases always questioned whether or not Chamberlain's main goal was to win, seeing that he was always compared to Boston's Bill Russell who was also a center and won 11 championships, he always put on a show whenever he got on the court and moved at incredible speeds for his size. We all know about his 100-point game that has yet to be touched in the history books today and he even had a 1962-1963 campaign that saw him record 50 points in 30 different games.

Majority of NBA star big men that came into the league after Chamberlain grew up hearing all of these stories and watching all of his game film as they tried to ponder how he could dominate every game in such incredible fashion. Former Boston Celtics champion Kevin Garnett was among this group and Lakers fans are quite familiar with him as they went up against him in two straight Finals back in the 2000's.

However, Garnett took it a step further to pay his respects to the late, great Wilt as he helped put together a Showtime documentary highlighting his legacy and life story by the name of 'Goliath.' Garnett touched on what motivated him to help with such a project.

"When I first started playing basketball, I think the first thing you learn are the pioneers of it," said Garnett. "Wilt Chamberlain was one of them, Jerry West was another, Kareem Abdul-Jabbar. They're like my childhood heroes, Wilt Chamberlain falls right into that. My Uncles, my grandpa... first things he would always tell me would be about Kareem's skyhook and Wilt's 100 points and how the young boys would never break that."
