Lakers News: HBO Cancels ‘Winning Time’ Following Insane Season Two Finale
For any fans of the HBO show Winning Time: The Rise of the Lakers Dynasty who were hoping for a season three, they were met with some grim news on Sunday evening. Shortly after the season two finale premiered, it was announced that there would be no season three, and the show was canceled.
While Winning Time was a fun watch, it dealt with lower ratings than the previous season and had many criticisms from the players being portrayed in the show. The author of the book that the show was based on, Jeff Pearlman, was outspoken about the possibility that there wouldn’t be a third season. He posted multiple times on social media about, pleading with fans to help bring viewership up.
“And, to be blunt, I'm worried there won't be a season three. And it's not about me. I'm fine. It's about a cast of amazing young actors who live this. So, seriously, tell your friends to support "Winning Time" and show @hbo you want it to continue. Peace. #winningtime”

The show was based on the "Showtime"-era Los Angeles Lakers dynasty in the 1980s, and it went through all the trials and tribulations that the franchise dealt with to become who they are today. It dealt with how Dr. Jerry Buss built the team up, the rivalry between the Lakers and Boston Celtics and much more.
It was a dramatized retelling of the events, but some people being portrayed were angered by the reenactment.
Earvin ”Magic” Johnson, Kareem Abdul-Jabbar and Jerry West all have spoken out against the show, which could have been one of the reasons for the low viewership. They have all claimed that the portrayal of people in the show was inaccurate, and Abdul-Jabbar even went as far as to call the show boring.
This show had a ton of promise to it, and unfortunately, it is now forced to come to an early end.
