Lakers News: Insider Expects Kyrie Irving to Sign With LA in the Offseason

An NBA Insider for The Athletic believes Kyrie will be a Laker after this season.
In this story:

This offseason could be a big one for the Lakers, as they’ll only have four players on the books, and this team could look a lot different at the start of the 2023-2024 campaign.

Some phenomenal free agents will hit the open market after this season, including NBA champion and eight-time All-Star Kyrie Irving

Irving will be an unrestricted free agent after this season and will be entering his age-31 season.

A handful of teams will be in the running for the former No. 1 overall pick, including the purple and gold.

NBA Insider Joe Vardon for The Athletic believes Irving will don the purple and gold next season.

Irving was traded to the Dallas Mavericks from the Brooklyn Nets at this year's trade deadline. The Lakers were favorites to land Kyrie, as his former teammate LeBron James was a big advocate in trying to trade for him before the deal between the Mavericks went down.

The writing is on the wall, but are the Lakers willing to offer Irving a long-term contract? Irving has been a bit eccentric the past couple of seasons, and his playing status seems to be up in the air more times than not.

His behavior off the court has caused controversy, and people question whether he is trustworthy. However, on the court, there is no denying Irving’s talent and how he would fit alongside James and Anthony Davis.

The 30-year-old is one of the most dynamic players in the league, and he was at his best when he was alongside the four-time MVP.

The Lakers offseason will be an interesting one filled with drama, but let’s hope it doesn’t start anytime soon.
