Should LA make a deal with Chicago?

Your 6-6 Los Angeles Lakers have been in the news lately and not just because of their on-court play. But there is reported interest in potentially making a trade with the flailing 4-8 Chicago Bulls at some point.

It was recently reported that the Bulls are now more open than ever to moving two-time All-Star shooting guard Zach LaVine, and the Lakers were one of three teams expected to pursue him. Well, LA insider Jovan Buha of The Athletic added fuel to that fire, saying that the interest from the Lakers is real.

"The Lakers’ interest in LaVine is real — at the right price."

Given the potential pieces involved, the Lakers would need to to wait until at least December 15th to acquire LaVine, because that is the date most recently signed players from the offseason can be moved. LA won't be able to make a trade for LaVine prior, so if Chicago is insistent on moving him sooner, they are out of luck.

LaVine could provide the Lakers with a third volume scorer to pair alongside LeBron James and Anthony Davis, giving them a more fair playing field against the rest of the league. His ball-handling abilities and scoring prowess could allow them to lessen their use of James, making this an intriguing decision.

But his ineffectiveness on the defensive end of the floor could hold them back. They already have struggled defensively this season, and he wouldn't help whatsoever in that area. But the team could look to expand the deal with Chicago possibly.

Buha has also reported that LA is interested in either forward DeMar DeRozan or former LA point guard Alex Caruso as well. Caruso would easily help the perimeter defense for the Lakers, and the team would love to have him back.

"If additional Bulls players become available, the Lakers would also have interest in DeMar DeRozan and/or former Laker Alex Caruso, according to multiple team sources."

The Lakers seem interested in upgrading their team this season, especially after the slow start that they have gotten off to. Any acquisition of these players would provide them a boost, and give them a better chance to hoist the title up at the end of the season.
