Lakers News: John Hollinger Calls Trade For All-Star This Summer A 'Perfect Storm' for LA
The Los Angeles Lakers' decision to stand pat at the trade deadline this season seemingly will have more of an impact on their options this coming offseason than many realize. Since they didn't trade any of their first-round picks, the Lakers will have up to three first-rounders to use in a potential blockbuster deal this summer.
The front office has already signaled that their plan is to pursue another star player to pair alongside LeBron James and Anthony Davis. This has led many to speculate on who that could be, with a few names coming to the forefront.
One of the more common names is All-Star guard Trea Young from the Atlanta Hawks. Young and the Lakers have been linked for quite some time now, with Los Angeles holding real interest in him.
With everything lining up the way it is, this could be the summer for a move to acquire the Atlanta All-Star. The Athletic's John Hollinger called this summer a "perfect storm" for the team to make a move.
"Ironically, the window of opportunity that appears to be opening is one with the team the Hawks almost sent Murray to: the Lakers. We already have a pretty good idea of what the contours of a Murray trade might look like, but this summer would also lend a perfect storm of opportunity for a Hawks-Lakers accord on Young."
Per John Hollinger of The Athletic
Young could provide a solid option to pair with Davis in the post-James era, as well as giving the Lakers another real chance to pursue a title with him. He would help take the burden off James to run the offense and give them a lethal three-point shooter.
With Los Angeles armed with their first-round picks, the Hawks may be interested in recouping some draft assets by moving Young. The Hawks will play hardball, but if Young pushes them, even a little, we could see him suiting up for the purple and gold next season.
