Lakers News: Kobe Bryant Jerseys To Make Return This Week For LA
The moment has finally arrived, Laker fans!
Your Los Angeles Lakers have announced that the team will wear their Black Mamba Kobe Bryant tribute uniforms in their next matchup, slated for this Thursday against the Denver Nuggets.
Thursday, February 8th, is set to be a bittersweet day for the organization and its fans. Thursday will be the day the Lakers will unveil the statue of NBA and Laker icon, the late-great Kobe Bryant statue, at Star Plaza outside of Crypto.com Arena earlier that day.
The Black Mamba uniforms, which the 2020 champion Lakers donned in their playoff run, were a hit, and they'll be returning for one night. The uniforms feature a snakeskin-like black print and drop shadows on the jersey numbers, a nod to a detail from the Lakers uniform from Bryant's rookie season in 1996-1997.
The jersey originally debuted in the 2017-2018 season as the team's first City Edition uniforms, and they were immediately a hit. The jersey was inspired by Bryant and his illustrious 20-year career in the NBA and, more importantly, as a Laker.
Bryant is arguably the greatest basketball player and Laker of all time. He brought this city five NBA championships, was named an 18-time All-Star, sits fourth all-time in NBA scoring, and has brought much joy and happiness to Laker fans.
Thursday will be a bittersweet moment for the baseball world. It's one you won't want to miss.
The statue ceremony starts at 3 p.m. PT, while tip-off is at 7 p.m. PT.
