Lakers News: Kobe Bryant's Widow Wins Another Lawsuit

She just needs an OC judge to ratify the decision now.

Kobe Bryant’s legacy can be talked about for days and there are few icons in the sports world that were able to connect with numerous communities the way he was able to. The late, great Lakers legend made it clear that he wanted his impact to extend well-beyond just the NBA court and with the millions of kids that were influenced by his work ethic and life approach, he certainly fulfilled that goal.

And when it came to the business side of things, the Black Mamba always brought his A-game there. When looking at the history of sports beverages, two companies have always been able to dominate the market and those are Gatorade and Powerade (with Vitamin Water a distant third). Anywhere you go in the world, you usually see those logos plastered on bottles, cups and anything else athletes drink out of.

However, during the latter years of Bryant’s playing career, he decided to invest $6 million into an up and coming sports drink company known as BodyArmor. He made sure to have bottles of the beverage with him at every game, showed off the brand on camera at every opportunity and put the name on the map. Sales skyrocketed once he began marketing their products and his investment eventually turned into an estate worth $400 million… talk about a nice return.

However, it turns out that the widow of Kobe, Vanessa Bryant, has been in the midst of a lawsuit with Kobe Inc. president Molly Carter after she went public and reportedly claimed that the late Lakers shooting guard had promised her part of his BodyArmor revenue.

TMZ revealed that Vanessa decided to turn the tables and will be awarded with $1.5 million after she filed a counter-lawsuit and will now find a local judge to ratify the ruling.

"Kobe Inc. president Molly Carter filed suit and alleged that Kobe had promised her a small percentage of his cut from BodyArmor, per TMZ Sports. Vanessa filed a countersuit and claimed Carter "violated the duty of loyalty and the non-disparagement clause in her employment contract by trash-talking Kobe and his family," per TMZ. An arbitrator ruled in Bryant's favor, and she's asking a judge in Orange County, California, to ratify the decision."(Via Bleacher Report)
