Lakers News: LA Officially Signs Rookie Wings

Good news for the team!
In this story:

The Los Angeles Lakers have officially signed their two rookie draft picks from the 2023 NBA Draft. Both their first round selection, Jalen Hood-Schifino and the second rounder Maxwell Lewis had been without deals while playing in the NBA Summer League. While the official details of the two deals have not been announced yet but the team released a statement saying that the players were signed.

Hood-Schifino has had the better summer league debut so far as he is quickly showing why he was a first round pick. His ability to get to the rim with ease has been on display despite his jump shot still being a work in progress. He has also flashed strong defensive instincts and how to run an offense.

He used his body well when driving towards the basket to keep defenders on his hips, allowing him more freedom to make a play. You can see some his highlights from the teams second summer league game against the San Antonio Spurs below.

As for Lewis, he has been slow to get going in the summer league. In their first game, he didn't see the floor much and then against San Antonio, he was held scoreless. The second rounder has a nice jump shot and is lengthy so he is a useful player if he can produce.

He looked much better in their third game against the Golden State Warriors, scoring seven points along with four rebounds and two assists. It could be a slow progress for him but Lewis should turn things around.

Both players will continue to grow their game as the summer goes on and we could possibly see one or both with the Lakers this upcoming season.
