Lakers News: LA Superstar Will Be Subject Of Fresh Netflix Docuseries

Yes please.

Los Angeles Lakers superstar power forward LeBron James, already the subject of several quality documentaries, will now be the marquee name in another.

Shams Charania of The Athletic reports that, much in the vein of their hit docuseries “Quarterback,” worldwide streaming leader Netflix will feature James alongside several other elite All-NBA and All-Star figures in an NBA equivalent.

Miami Heat All-NBA small forward Jimmy Butler, Boston Celtics All-NBA power forward Jayson Tatum, Minnesota Timberwolves All-Star shooting guard Anthony Edwards, and Sacramento Kings All-Star center Domantas Sabonis are the other subjects that have been revealed, per Charania.

Given the timing of the announcement (midseason), it seems likely that the show may not start filming until the top of the 2024-25 season. This is encouraging in and of itself, in that it suggests the 39-year-old James (the league's oldest player) will at least be amenable to playing somewhere next season, whether or not he picks up his $51.4 million player option for next year.

"Quarterback" offers a uniquely intimate behind-the-scenes peak into some of the best players at the most important position in America's most popular sport (but also Marcus Mariota). Here's hoping the still-unnamed basketball equivalent is granted the same kind of access.
