It's buyout season!

For NBA teams perceived to be contenders, this is the time when you scrape the bottom of the proverbial barrel in hopes of landing a piece that can help your squad compete for a title.

This is especially important for teams that might be strapped by cap space issues. As it pertains to the Los Angeles Lakers, one report indicates that a former All-Star could soon be in their sights.

According to Jovan Buha of The Athletic, the Lakers might be ready to pursue established guard Kyle Lowry.

This is what Buha had to say about the multi-time All-Star guard:

"According to team and league sources, Kyle Lowry, who could be available if he’s bought out by Charlotte after being traded there from Miami this week, is one name to watch for the Lakers."

Per Jovan Buha of The Athletic

Lowry was recently dealt along with a first-round pick to the Charlotte Hornets for Terry Rozier. Lowry's play has certainly fallen off from where it had been. At nearly 38 years of age, he's averaging only 8.2 points and 4.0 assists per game on .426% from the field and .385% from three-point land.

Conventional wisdom suggests that the Hornets will eventually release Lowry. He could ultimately be a part of the Lakers' reported plan to rebuild its backcourt -- particularly at the point guard spot.

Point guard D'Angelo Russell has long been involved in trade talks for guard Dejounte Murray. First-round pick Jalen Hood-Schifino hasn't shown enough to suggest he can be a credible player in a playoff series.

Lowry, on the other hand, would be an excellent backup point guard. A natural leader, Lowry is battle-tested, experienced, and well-respected. You could see a rejuvenated Lowry playing spot minutes rather than starter minutes.
