Lakers News: LA To Celebrate In-Season Tournament Win Tonight Vs Knicks

Another banner goes up into the rafters at Crypto.com Arena.

It's been a little over a week since your Los Angeles Lakers won the first-ever NBA In-Season Tournament, and it's time to finally celebrate it. 

Before tip-off of the Lakers' game tonight against the New York Knicks, LA will hoist their 2023 In-Season Tournament championship banner up to the rafters of Crypto.com Arena.

At first, the Lakers hadn't planned on putting up a banner to celebrate them winning the tournament. But the NBA had other ideas and apparently pushed them to do so.

The Lakers will put up one banner in the rafters, and if they were to win the In-Season Tournament in the future, they will add the year to it. 

Normally, the policy has been only to house up banners for championships, but since this is technically a championship, LA is obliged to raise the banner.

This will commemorate the successful run that the Lakers had in the tournament, going undefeated on their way to the title. It means something to be the first team to ever win this award, so it makes sense for them to want to celebrate the accomplishment.

Obviously, the end goal is a real NBA title, but the Lakers can enjoy the small achievements along the way. It wasn't easy to win, and the pressure of the games being a knockout was fun to watch. 

Players and coaches said that the games felt like a real playoff atmosphere due to the stakes, so the NBA succeeded in its mission. This tournament will be around for a long time, and the Lakers will always be able to say that they were the first to win it all.
