Lakers News: LeBron James Confirmed to Join LA Legends In Rafters

His jersey will be among the greats!

LeBron James had a very special opportunity on his hands last season and if he hadn't suffered a foot injury in the second half of the year, he very well could have achieved it. Few NBA players have bounced back and forth between jersey numbers the way he has and it's clear that both 23 and 6 hold special places in his heart.

In fact, he's already worn both during his time with the purple and gold and we had the pleasure of watching him win his fourth career championship in 23 back in 2020. However, he almost made the NBA Finals with the Lakers last season but this time if he had went the full mile, James would have captured a ring for LA while wearing the number 6.

That sparked a number of debates around the league as fans were questioning if The King deserved to have his jersey retired by the franchise and if so, which number would it be? Kobe Bryant already set a very high standard when it comes to having two numbers put in the rafters so that is likely out of the question.

However, Lakers governor Jeanie Buss recently spoke out about this topic and confirmed that after James gets inducted into the Hall of Fame, his LA jersey will never be worn by a player again.

In an interview with Mark Medina of Sportskeeda, Lakers governor Jeanie Buss said she has "absolutely no doubt" James' jersey will hang from the rafters at Crypto.com Arena after he retires and gets inducted into the Basketball Hall of Fame.

"When he does so, then we will retire his jersey," she said. "Knowing that he will make it into the Basketball Hall of Fame, he will have his Lakers jersey retired, no doubt about it."(Via Bleacher Report)

Buss did not expand as to which number it will be but seeing that The King is going back to 23 this season, I think that answers our question.
