Lakers News: LeBron James Non-Plussed About Another Ageless Performance Vs Portland
Your Los Angeles Lakers beat the Portland Trail Blazers 107-95 on Friday night, led by LeBron James and his 35-point, nine-assist, five-rebound performance.
This stellar outing boosted LeBron's averages on the season to 25.5 points per game, 8.3 rebounds per game, and 6.3 assists per game, to go along with 39.7% three-point shooting.
While this type of stat line on the season would be impressive for ANY player, it is mind-boggling for a player who is turning 39 years old in a month to be putting up these numbers!
"I put the work in," the 4-time NBA MVP said to Lakers reporter Mike Trudell.
That's quite an understatement.
However, that's just who LeBron is. The 19-time All-NBA player expects greatness of himself, and it is only surprising if his output is anything less than spectacular.
The only question to ask now is: How much longer can 4-time Finals MVP keep this level of play up?
Personally speaking, I thought that this would finally be the season in which we saw a sharp decline in LeBron's play. Although it was due to injury, his decreased athleticism and overall spark in the playoffs last year led me to believe that this would be the year LeBron finally looked human.
Instead, his shot has improved, his scoring and playmaking have still been elite, and LeBron looks to be on his way to garnering his 20th all-star game selection this year.
Another Title Run in the Near Future?
With LeBron still playing MVP-level basketball, and Anthony Davis looking like the frontrunner for Defensive Player of the Year, it really is shaping up to be a year in which the Lakers could take home the Larry O'Brien trophy for the 18th time.
If LeBron and the Lakers' play in the In-Season Tournament (where they are 3-0 and lead the league in point differential at +42) is any sign of how they will play going forward in the season, a title run could very well be a probability rather than a possibility.
Everyone, please, just stay healthy.
