Lakers News: LeBron James Offers Amazing Retort When Asked About Post-IST Record
When asked directly why your 15-12 Los Angeles Lakers have gone 1-3 since winning the In-Season Tournament championship against the Indiana Pacers last weekend (a contest that, by the way, doesn't actually count towards LA's regular season or postseason record at all), All-NBA power forward LeBron James was quick to offer up a retort, per Broderick Turner of The Los Angeles Times.
“I don’t know,” he said. “Have you seen Indiana’s record since Vegas?”
Ouch.
The aforementioned Pacers have stumbled to a 1-4 run since losing to the Lake Show in that game though so, you know, he ain't wrong. The club, led by promising young All-Star guard Tyrese Haliburton, is now 13-12 on the year.
Ultimately, James was trying to deflect a bit. The Lakers have been struggling to contain opposing perimeter players, and it's been showing in these troubling recent results.
Most alarmingly, Los Angeles fell to a San Antonio Spurs team that at the time was in the midst of an 18-game losing streak. Granted the Lakers were missing three starters in D'Angelo Russell, Cam Reddish and Anthony Davis, plus key reserve Gabe Vincent, but they still botched a winnable bout.
The Lakers also dropped a close game to the 16-10 Dallas Mavericks last Tuesday, 127-125, plus a heartbreaker at home on Monday, 114-109, against the New York Knicks. But Dallas is a solid playoff nemesis in the West, and it was a single-possession loss on the road, so there's no real shame in that.
