Lakers News: Longtime Vet Unpacks Key Difference Between Kobe Bryant And Michael Jordan
It seemed like ever since the late, great Kobe Bryant hit the scene in the late 1990's, the comparisons to Michael Jordan came in heavy. The Black Mamba made it clear as his career went on that he had studied Jordan's film down to a crisp and it was truly his mission to take his throne as the greatest player of all time. And when you look at the footwork, finesse and mentality towards the game of basketball, nobody came closer to the retired Bulls shooting guard in those regards.
The debate as to who actually is the greatest player of all time is quite subjective and there are so many layers to uncover. However, I think we all need to pay more attention to what actual NBA players believe versus just the normal fans on Twitter. They are the ones going through the daily grind and understanding what it takes to go out there every game and maintain a certain level of greatness.
And retired guard Kendall Gill actually got the opportunity to match up against both of these legends during his own 16-year career that began in 1991 and came to an end in 2005. He joined Brandon 'Scoop B' Robinson for an exclusive interview and shared his thoughts on the one facet of Bryant's game that he believed to be superior to Jordan.
“I’d say the biggest difference is that Kobe is probably just a little bit better of a three-point shooter than Michael,” said Gill. “It was just a little bit better, not a great deal but just a little bit better and Michael was a much better defender than Kobe, and I know Kobe made a lot of defensive teams but he wasn’t the same defensively as Michael. Michael could just flat out shut you down if he wanted to. I really didn’t get that sense when I played against Kobe.”

The difference in three-point shooting makes sense as they became more common in the NBA as Bryant's career progressed and when it comes to defense, I believe both guys had it in them to lock down some of the best scorers they ever faced up against.
