Lakers News: Los Angeles Prioritizing This Position For Last Free Agent Signing

There may be an interesting market out there.
In this story:

The Lakers have all but rounded out their roster for next season. They made some smart, valued signings that should help the team win much more than last season. The hope was to lean on continuity and the team did exactly that. They added in more wing depth and scoring to a team that lacked it at times last season. General Manager Rob Pelinka came out of the gates swinging and didn't miss a beat.

However, the team still needs another big man to back up Anthony Davis. And they still have two open roster spots.

Lakers insider Jovan Buha of The Athletic mentioned that the Lakers are looking into big men for their 14th roster spot. Both Tristan Thompson and Mo Bamba could be candidates for the posotion but the team could also wait to see if any better options become available.

"L.A. is targeting another big man with its 14th roster spot, according to team sources. They are likely to carry 14 guaranteed contracts into the season, leaving one roster spot open. Mo Bamba, whom the Lakers waived on Thursday, and Tristan Thompson, who joined the team right before their playoff run, remain options to fill that 14th spot, according to league sources"

Per The Athletic

Brining either Bamba or Thompson back would be find for the 14th spot. Bamba was limited to injury during his short time in LA and could pair well alongside Davis as a big who can shoot. Thompson provided some nice minutes off the bench in the playoffs and has the familiarity with LeBron James from their Cleveland days together.

I'd lean towards Bamba if the team were choosing one of the two. He is younger and fits in with the rest of the roster better. And as mentioned, he can shoot the three ball, opening the floor for the offense when he would be on the court.

No matter how the Lakers choose to go about this last spot, they already have a good roster. It should help them really compete for title number 18 next season!
