With your Los Angeles Lakers' strange start to the 2023-24 season, many believed that the team would start looking into acquiring a third star to go alongside LeBron James and Anthony Davis. Shortly after that thought was first floated, the Chicago Bulls reportedly made star guard Zach LaVine available.

The Lakers were among the teams most interested in going after LaVine, but now it seems that it may have been overblown. NBA analyst Marc Stein is reporting that LA may be more focused on getting healthy and building on inner improvement, rather than going out for a trade.

“I'm told the Lakers, at present, are focused on internal improvement, hopeful that getting Jarred Vanderbilt … and Vincent back on the floor regularly will give them a meaningful boost.”

Per Marc Stein

LA has had multiple players miss time this season due to injury already, and it has hurt them on the court. They haven't had their full rotation available for one full game yet, and the team likely wants to see how they look when that does happen.

They have been relying heavily on James and Davis to carry the load, but there are some games that they need help. They can't do it alone, which is why a third star does make some sense.

LaVine could fill that role for the Lakers, and he would provide them with another strong scoring option. He also is a good ball-handler who could take some load off James from running the team.

The Lakers may look into external options at some point here, but for now, they seem okay with where they are. They built this roster with solid depth, and they likely want to see it through, at least for now.
