Lakers News: Pau Gasol Reflects On Relationship With Kobe Bryant's Widow And Kids
Fans of the Los Angeles Lakers had the pleasure of watching Kobe Bryant and Pau Gasol form one of the most successful and unique partnerships in NBA history. Before Gasol touched down in LA, there were questions regarding his competitive spirit and ability to hang with some of the best big men in the league. His skill was never questioned seeing that he came from Spain and brought a selfless and polished game into the league but joining the purple and gold allowed him to truly tap into his potential.
However, ever since Kobe Bryant tragically passed away in 2020, Gasol has made sure to help his widow Vanessa and her children with anything that they have needed. Bryant's daughters come to know Gasol as Uncle Pau and whether it was accompanying them in public events or spending holidays with the family, he grew closer and closer to them.
Gasol recently was inducted into the Naismith Basketball Hall of Fame and in an exclusive interview with the LA Times, he touched on how special it is to remain close to the Bryant family.
“It’s a blessing. It means the world to me to be able to have such a close relationship, a family really relationship with Vanessa, Natalia, Bianka and Capri and spend time together, be a family really, to be an uncle to those girls, to be a brother to Vanessa. It’s very special. Very special. Something that is dear to my heart, to my family’s heart, as well. Obviously Vanessa is the godmother to our daughter, Elisabet Gianna. That’s forever. That’s forever for me. That’s for life. That true, a unique, type of love that obviously was enhanced through Kobe.”
