Lakers News: Stephen Curry Given Surprisingly Good Odds Of Joining LA
After the 2025-2026 season, Golden State Warriors Hall of Fame point guard Stephen Curry will find himself in need of a new contract.
It's impossible to predict what'll happen that far out – Steph would be 37 by that time, and with a young family, the odds that he calls it quits or re-signs with the Warriors, as opposed to signing somewhere else, are fairly high. He has, after all, taken Golden State to six NBA Finals appearances, winning four. Oh, and won two league MVP awards.
But, in spite of that, BetOnline calculates that if Curry were to sign anywhere but Golden State, the Lakers have the third-highest odds, at +500.
LA trails the San Antonio Spurs (+300), and Curry's hometown Charlotte Hornets (+400). Charlotte makes sense, as Curry grew up there, but San Antonio is a bit more interesting.
It is presumed, however, that a few years from now they'll still have Victor Wembanyama, giving every player an incentive to sign with them and get a chance to play alongside the once-in-a-lifetime talent.
With regards to the Lakers, it's become a running joke that every high-end free agent is connected to the purple and gold, as given the franchise's market size, location, and willingness to go into the luxury tax, they're more than capable of signing the big-names out there.
Now, in order for Curry to sign with LA, he'd obviously need to leave Golden State first.
A combination of a potential retirement along with his ability to have spent his entire career on one team, however, both act as major obstacles to him leaving.
Curry has also done his fair share of winning already, and so the notion of ring-chasing, as many older players do, also doesn't really apply to this situation.
This leaves him with little to no incentive leave, let alone come to LA, but if the oddsmakers have some confidence, maybe there's something we don't know.
