Lakers Rumors: Insider Proposes Epic Trade To Bring Kyrie Irving, 2020 Champion To LA
The start of the season hasn’t exactly gone the way that the Los Angeles Lakers would have hoped. And with the clock ticking for them to succeed, they could already be looking to upgrade the roster, possibly with a third star player.
NBA pundit Eric Pincus of Bleacher Report put together a few trades that the Lakers could look at to improve themselves, and he has linked them with a familiar name that currently plays in Dallas.
“The Trade:
Kyrie Irving and Markieff Morris for D'Angelo Russell, Rui Hachimura and Jalen Hood-Schifino. The Lakers wait until closer to the end of December to sign a 14th player at the vet min. Irving waives his trade bonus to get to the Lakers (otherwise, a deal becomes even more challenging). Dallas needs to open a roster spot to make the trade legal by waiving or trading (but not to the Lakers) a player currently on the roster.”

On the surface, this trade looks great, and the Lakers would likely jump at executing it. But would why would the Mavericks make this happen?
They have gotten off to a great start to the season, and they view Irving as a big reason for that fact. Unless something happens between Irving and Luka Doncic or Dallas starts to fade off, they have no need to shake things up like this.
The only way I could see Dallas making this deal is if they decide they aren’t good enough to win the NBA title. They could get some cap space with Russell likely opting out this summer, a solid wing in Hachimura and an upcoming point guard prospect in Hood-Schifino.
This deal would also likely be approved by James, as he had been pushing for Irving to join the Lakers for a long time now. It would appease him, and it could help him stay in Los Angeles past this season as well.
“Once fractured, James' relationship with his former teammate is on much better terms. The challenge would be Irving's $39 million starting salary (including unlikely incentives, which count against the Lakers' hard cap).”
Per Eric Pincus of Bleacher Report
This deal would make the Lakers much better than they are currently constructed, and it would give them a better chance to win the title. But it remains to be seen if the front office would be willing to take on Irving.
