Lakers Rumors: LA Showing Trade Interest In Veteran All-Star Point Guard

Any level of veteran leadership is welcome.
In this story:

What LeBron James has done is incredible, but it's no question he needs help. Any way to keep him off the ball is something the Lakers may consider exploring and Mike Conley may be next in line.

Conley won't be the younger option like Fred VanVleet that the Lakers may explore, but Conley provides a more team friendly contract ($24.4 million guaranteed next season) and the Lakers likely won't have to depart with any draft picks. Conley is only averaging 10.5 points on the season, but his 7.5 assists will come in handy as he gets shooters open with his playmaking abilities.

His 37.4% 3-point shooting can also help space the floor for James driving to the basket. The Lakers may be more inclined to find a better scoring option, but the Jazz have been in the works of shopping Conley and is someone championship aspired teams will look to grab (via Bleacher Report).

Conley's contract is favorable, with $14.3 million of $24.4 million guaranteed next season. The same (real or wannabe) contenders are thought to have interest, among others: the Lakers, Clippers and Timberwolves.

It may not be the move Lakers fans are hoping for, and not one that may completely move the needle, but it's something worth exploring. Especially with Russell Westbrook likely gone at the end of the season the Lakers can pick right back up with another veteran point guard.
