Lakers News: Latest On D'Angelo Russell's Ankle Injury
New Los Angeles Lakers point guard D'Angelo Russell doesn't seem too worried about the right ankle he appeared to badly twist during last night's 124-111 blowout victory over the Golden State Warriors.
With 4:31 remaining in the game's first quarter, Russell landed awkwardly on Warriors guard Donte DiVincenzo's foot while attempting to inbound the ball. He remained in the contest until the next stoppage in play occurred, with 3:12 left in the period. He would not return to the floor the rest of the night, but it hardly mattered, as a healthy LA trounced a Warriors team without Stephen Curry, Andrew Wiggins or Gary Payton II available.
“Wrong place, wrong time definitely,” Russell noted. “Pretty unlucky for me.”
"Our team is stacked, so when guys aren't playing their best it allows other guys to step up," Russell noted.
Reserve guard Dennis Schröder was able to take over in Russell's absence, scoring 13 points on 4-of-7 shooting from the floor and 4-of-4 shooting from the charity stripe, while dishing out six assists.
Darvin Ham indicated that imaging of the ankle came back negative, per Dave McMenamin of ESPN, which is encouraging news at least. McMenamin adds that Russell was "not too worried" about missing extended time, noting that he might even return for the Lakers' next game, a Sunday matinee against the Mavericks.
Until then, further tests will be done to determine the extent of the ailment, currently listed as a sprain.
