Lakers News: Latest Training Camp Signing Now Official

Meet the newest Laker!
In this story:

The newest member of your Los Angeles Lakers preseason roster is now official.

LA has revealed that combo forward Louis King is now onboard, via the franchise's Twitter/X account.

When news broke yesterday that the 6'7" former Oregon Duck would be joining Los Angeles on a training camp contract, yours truly speculated he had been added temporarily with the understood goal that he would quickly be subtracted.

That's because Los Angeles already has 14 players inked to deals on its 15-man standard roster (but reportedly wants to keep one spot open heading into the year), plus all three of its two-way contracts occupied. It doesn't seem like franchises believes that King, who's played mostly mop-up minutes across just 20 games for three different NBA clubs since 2019, isn't quite ready yet.

King, 24, has suited up for the Detroit Pistons, Sacramento Kings, and Philadelphia 76ers since going undrafted out of college. He's also played for several NBAGL affiliate clubs: the Grand Rapids Drive, the Westchester Knicks, the Stockton Kings, the Rio Grande Valley Vipers and most recently the Delaware Blue Coats. For the Blue Coats, King appeared in 32 regular season bouts, averaging 16.5 points on .421/.320/.600 shooting splits, five assists and 4.7 boards a night.

Another fun King wrinkle: while with Sacramento's Summer League team in 2021, King won the Summer League MVP as he helped propel the club to a Summer League championship.
