Lakers News: LeBron James Joined Exclusive Company As Le Mans 24 Hour Race Starter

The LA superstar has already had an active offseason.

Just a few weeks into his offseason, Los Angeles Lakers All-NBA small forward LeBron James is already back to his jet-setting summer ways.

The 19-time All-Star recently touched down in Le Mans, France, for one of the most prestigious auto racing competitions in the world. James kicked off the race, called 24 Hours of Le Mans, as its official celebrity guest starter. The competition is celebrating its 100th birthday this year.

According to Sportstar, James joins a long list of A-listers who have shown up to ring in the start of the competition over the years. Oscar-winning Hollywood superstar Brad Pitt also celebrated the start of the race in 2016, while a movie star of yesteryear, Steve McQueen, also celebrated the beginning of the 24-hour endurance test in 1971, as a tie in to promote his film about it, "Le Mans."

“There’s nothing like seeing and experiencing sports at their highest level,” James commented, per Sportstar. “It’s an honor for me to be part of this historic moment in motor sport and help celebrate the Centenary of one of the biggest sporting events in the world.”

Ferrari won this year's race, which just concluded yesterday.
