Lakers News: Los Angeles Reportedly Still Wants To Retain Free Agent Guard

The team's backcourt has already undergone a pretty significant change.
In this story:

Despite just adding ex-Miami Heat starting point guard Gabe Vincent on an incredibly reasonable three-year, $33 million contract (which Dave McMenamin of ESPN indicated was done using a large portion of the team's non-taxpayer mid-level exception), your Los Angeles Lakers are still hoping to keep their own unrestricted free agent starter at the position, D'Angelo Russell, reports Dan Woike of The Los Angeles Times.

This is a bit strange, given that Vincent now boasts a proven playoff track record, including against the eventual champion Denver Nuggets, while D-Lo was unplayably bad against the eventual champs in the same playoffs. Vincent is the superior player in my opinion, though Russell may have a better reputation around the NBA and could be looking to collect between $16-$18 million, according to ESPN's Bobby Marks.

Perhaps another shoe will drop out of this report. Maybe Los Angeles wants to re-sign Russell as part of a sign-and-trade agreement that will help the club add a solid veteran at another position of need (the team could use a bit more wing shooting).
