12-time Los Angeles Lakers All-Star point guard Magic Johnson is getting into the Washington Commanders bidding wars. Per Scott Soshnick and Eben Novy-Williams of Sportico, the five-time champion and three-time NBA MVP is aligning himself with an interested ownership group fronted by Josh Harris, current co-owner of the Philadelphia 76ers and the New Jersey Blue Devils.

As Soshnick and Novy-Williams note, Johnson, Harris, and the rest of their team also tried (and failed) to land the Denver Broncos last year when that revered NFL franchise was on the market.

As current Commanders team governor Dan Snyder is embroiled in myriad controversies (including workplace misconduct allegations), it appears he is testing the waters for a potential sale. Sportico reveals that a deal for Washington could transpire as soon as the end of March, as all 32 league owners will be convening together in Arizona.

Johnson of course owns and has owned a wide variety of sports teams. He still had a piece of the Lakers when the team won its five titles with Kobe Bryant from 2000-2010. In 2011, he chipped in $50 million to join the LA Dodgers' ownership group, and saw that team win a title in 2020.
