Lakers Matchup Reports: Anthony Davis Vs Jaren Jackson Jr. - Numbers That Matter
Although Los Angeles Lakers All-Star small forward LeBron James and Memphis Grizzlies All-Star point guard Ja Morant are probably the two biggest headliners from their respective clubs, it's a (ahem) big matchup between LA center Anthony Davis and Memphis power forward/center Jaren Jackson Jr. that seems likely to determine who wins tonight's currently-ongoing game and this best-of-seven series overall.
As a reminder, a Lakers win tonight would mean that LA gets to advance to the second round, while a Grizzlies win would send the two teams back to Memphis for a decisive Game 7.
So let's do a little head-to-head breakdown of how Davis and Jackson have been faring so far in this series.
Field Goal Conversion Rate
Despite having two miserable shooting games in the playoffs thus far, Davis is making 47.3% of his 18.2 field goal attempts (including 33.3% of his triples) and 80% of his 5.0 free throws a night. Jackson, who is the Grizzlies' third option on offense (AD is LA's first or second) behind Desmond Bane and Ja Morant, is notching 45.1% of his 14.2 field goal looks and 85.7% of his 5.6 free throws.
Rebounds
Davis is pulling down a whopping 13.6 boards, far more than JJJ's 8.6 rebounds.
Blocks
Jackson, the regular season in blocks per game at 3.0, is blocking 2.5 shots a night across five games in this series, still an incredibly impressive total.
But Davis is in another stratosphere right now, averaging 4.2 rejections a night.
