Lakers News: Max Offering Massive NBA Streaming Service This Coming Season
As more streaming services add live sports to their many offerings, Max, formerly known as HBO Max, is joining the trend.
With Amazon Prime offering Thursday Night Football coverage and YouTube TV exclusively providing NFL RedZone, streaming has become an essential way to watch sports. Gone are the days of flipping through channels with access to any and every live-streamed event. Now, as the subscriptions pile up, you must switch from app to app depending on what sport you're intending to watch. How convenient.
Max, which is now under the Warner Bros. Discovery brand, will carry 65 regular season NBA games, the in-season tournament, NBA All-Star Weekend, the 2024 NBA Playoffs and the beloved Inside the NBA show. TNT, which airs much of the advertised content, is owned by Warner Bros. Discovery.
In fact, all live games that air on a WBD network, such as TNT, TBS and truTV will be available on Max through the new their, which will be free to current Max subscribers until February 29. Afterwards, there will be an increased monthly payment if users wish to keep the feature.
In addition to their basketball coverage, Max will cover The Match, U.S. Soccer matches and select live international sports events.
WBD's decision to add live sports to their streaming network is a sign of a continued fight against sports programming leaking onto streaming websites. Sporting events dominate the most-watched events of the year.
WBD is getting prepared to hold talks with the NBA about an exclusive extension of their streaming services after the league's existing deal with Disney/ESPN and WBD expires upon the 2024-25 season's conclusion.
