Lakers News: NBA Rewards Anthony Davis For Terrific Recent Play
It seems the NBA has recognized that your Los Angeles Lakers star center Anthony Davis was on a major heater last week.
The league announced that it has named Davis its Western Conference Player of the Week for an absolutely bonkers recent tear.
The 6'10" big man has averaged 38.7 points, 11.7 rebounds, and 2.0 blocks across LA's last three contests, all victories.
Brooklyn Nets small forward Mikal Bridges was named the East's Player of the Week. Brooklyn, also, went 3-0 last week, while being led by Bridges' 33.0 points and 5.7 rebounds a night.
Davis has been a huge part of the Lakers' recent turnaround. The club has won 10 of its past 14 games, and is now 40-38 on the season, good for its conference's seventh seed. The fifth-seeded Los Angeles Clippers, at 41-38, are just 0.5 games ahead of the Lakers, meaning there's a chance AD and co. could skip the play-in tournament altogether this season.
It would behoove the Lakers to avoid the fifth seed, however, as that would mean a first-round date with the Phoenix Suns, who are obviously much, much better than their 43-35 record would suggest, and probably should be the favorite to emerge out of the West.
Of course, if Davis keeps averaging 38.7 points and 11.7 rebounds a night when the playoffs hit, there's little anyone could do to stop the Lakers.
