In this story:

Maximum-salaried Los Angeles Lakers starting center Anthony "Street Clothes" Davis has come under fan ire of late, and has seen his popularity nosedive, as his health and team have descended from champions to fringe play-in candidates.

So should LA jump ship? Would the team be able to actually improve its roster depth around All-Star small forward LeBron James were it to move on from the pricey contract of its injury-prone eight-time All-Star, Davis?

During a recent conversation Brandon "Scoop B" Robinson and Gary Sheffield of Bovada Sports spoke about the future of Anthony Davis in LA.

"You said on Twitter that the Lakers should trade Anthony Davis," Robinson told Sheffield. "Where should they trade Anthony Davis to?"

"Anywhere where you're going to get assets that are reliable," Sheffield responded. "So I don't exactly have a location in mind, but if I'm really looking at Anthony Davis, as I'm sure people are wondering, 'Why in the world would this guy want to trade Anthony Davis?' And it has nothing to do with talent. It really doesn't, in my mind. Anthony Davis is one of the most talented players in the NBA. Occasionally you'll watch him and say, 'This is a top five guy.'"

I have to interject here. That has only been the case for a handful of weeks at a time since Davis won his lone title in 2020 with the Lakers. He's never able to sustain it far beyond that without getting a major injury or else seeing his play drop off. Anybody can look like a top five guy over a short-enough window. Davis can't be trusted to stay healthy long enough for him to really be considered even a top five center, let alone a top five player.

"But the issue for AD is he's just not available," Sheffield continued. "And I can't sit up here and say a guy is a top ten player or a top 20 player in the NBA if he plays 35 games a year."

Exactly.

Can LA actually trade Davis and get a positive return? Would a team be willing to offload a younger, healthier All-Star for someone with Davis' tantalizing ceiling?
