Lakers Rumors: Potential LA Free Agent Target Switches to Klutch Sports Agency

This is the same agency, run by Rich Paul, that also boasts Lakers stars LeBron James and Anthony Davis as clients.

In the midst of the Kyrie Irving trade drama that went down last week, the Toronto Raptors point guard Fred VanVleet, a 2022 All-Star, emerged as a potential trade target for the Los Angeles Lakers.

Along with LA, the Phoenix Suns, Los Angeles Clippers, Orlando Magic, and Minnesota Timberwolves were all rumored as potential teams for VanVleet. Toronto wound up trading for old pal Jakob Poeltl, but otherwise the team held onto assets like VanVleet and Gary Trent Jr., though both players could opt into free agency in 2023.

As FVV potentially enters free agency this summer, the Lakers still might have the chance to acquire him. The good news is that VanVleet recently switched to Klutch Sports on Friday. This is the same agency, run by Rich Paul, that Lakers stars LeBron James and Anthony Davis are also signed with.

With those key players under the same agency, this could possibly sway VanVleet more in the right direction of coming to Los Angeles.

VanVleet has a $22.8 million player option in his contract for the 2023-24 season, so he has the option of becoming an unrestricted free agent in the offseason. The All-Star apparently turned down a four-year, $114 million contract extension offer from Toronto during the offseason. As a free agent, he could receive more.

The 28-year-old is currently averaging 19.7 points, 6.5 assists and 4.5 rebounds this season. VanVleet won a championship with the Toronto Raptors in 2019 and could bring the same impact to the Los Angeles Lakers as they try to construct a championship-caliber team.
