The strength of a head coach in sports is not just how they figure out different ways to find success from their team, but also the staff that they put into place. It takes an entire unit working together toward a common goal for success to come, and nobody can do it alone.

For your Los Angeles Lakers, they are lucky that they have assistant coach Phil Handy helping out with things. He is one of the best assistant coaches in the entire NBA, and he helps make Darvin Ham’s job that much easier.

Handy is known for his developmental work with players, and it shows in the level of production that takes place on the court. Last season, he took forward Rui Hachimura under his wing once he got to Los Angeles, and everything took off from there.

Hachimura looked more confident and like the player that many believed he could be when he was drafted a few years ago. The two men are still working out together this summer with a photo coming up showing them grinding together.

It’s great to see that they are continuing to get work in together even over the offseason. This is how bonds form, and both guys know how important this coming season is going to be.

Hachimura signed a new three-year contract to stay with the Lakers this offseason, and he was a big reason why they got to the Western Conference Finals a year ago. His play in the postseason propelled this team, and they are banking on him continuously growing this season.

Handy will continue to work with him throughout the year, and that should only help the young forward get better. Hachimura has the skillset to make a major difference in how the Lakers season goes this year, and with the new contract, brings up new expectations.

The season will be here much sooner than most people think, and it’ll be exciting to see the overall improvement that Hachimura worked on this offseason.
