Lakers News: Vanessa Bryant Accepts Massive Settlement From LA County
Vanessa Bryant, widow of 20-year Los Angeles Lakers Hall of Fame shooting guard Kobe Bryant, won a monumental sum in court this week from LA County.
Kobe Bryant, his and Vanessa's daughter Gianna, and seven other souls all perished in a tragic helicopter crash on a Calabasas hillside one foggy January morning in 2020.
First responders on the scene (LA County sheriffs and firefighters) apparently took photographs of the grisly accident's aftermath and shared them with select family and friends. Bryant and co-plaintiff Chris Chester, whose daughter and wife were also killed on board, sued LA County for the sheriffs' thoughtless decision to share images and footage from the crash site.
Per ESPN, Bryant is walking away with a $28.85 million settlement from LA County, while Chester will receive a total of $19.95 million.
"Today marks the successful culmination of Mrs. Bryant's courageous battle to hold accountable those who engaged in this grotesque conduct," Bryant's attorney Luis Li reflected. "She fought for her husband, her daughter, and all those in the community whose deceased family were treated with similar disrespect. We hope her victory at trial and this settlement will put an end to this practice."
Bryant had already been rewarded $15 million as a portion of the settlement, which is part of this total.
