Lakers News: Versatile Free Agent Wing Seen As Possible Free Agent Prospect

Will LA go after him?

The Los Angeles Lakers enter a crucial offseason that is likely to see them tinker with the roster that just went to the Western Conference. Externally, they have said that they’d like to retain most of the roster, but it remains to be seen how realistic that will be. Either way, the Lakers do need to make some moves, even if it’s just upgrading around the edges of the roster.

Their depth was challenged in their series loss to the Denver Nuggets so making sure they upgrade there will be critical for a successful summer.

The team will have multiple options to work with as the summer starts and they have their eyes on some free agents already. Jovan Buha of The Athletic mentioned Phoenix Suns forward Torrey Craig as a possible option for Los Angeles with their mid-level exception that they are scheduled to have as of now.

Craig could present an intriguing option for the Lakers due to his ability to space the floor and play defense. The Lakers lack a ton of 3-and-D type players, so Craig could help in that regard. During the regular season, Craig averaged 7.4 points and 5.4 rebounds for Phoenix. He also shot 39.5 percent from deep as well.

During the Suns first round series this season against the Los Angeles Clippers, Craig played a key role for the team. He averaged 12.4 points a game over the five game series. He would give the team more wing depth as well, something they have severely lacked in the last few seasons.

No matter what the Lakers do this offseason, they need to play things right. LeBron James isn't getting any younger and the team needs to maximize the championship window they are in next year.
