Lakers News: Watch Pau Gasol Get Fitted For His Hall Of Fame Jacket In Springfield
Two-time Los Angeles Lakers championship-winning power forward/center Pau Gasol will officially be enshrined in the Naismith Memorial Basketball Hall of Fame in Springfield, Massachusetts tonight at 5 p.m. PT on NBA TV.
But the festivities have already kicked off.
Upon being flipped to the Lakers halfway through the 2008 season, the 7' big man helped lead Los Angeles to three straight NBA Finals appearances, winning twice in 2009 and 2010. Hall of Fame shooting guard Kobe Bryant may have won the Finals MVP for both those titles, but Gasol two-way post play proved imperative against future Laker (and future Hall of Famer) Dwight Howard in 2009 and Hall of Fame Boston Celtics power forward Kevin Garnett in 2010.
During his six playoff appearances with LA, Gasol averaged 16.8 points on 51.9% shooting from the floor and 73.5% from the charity stripe, 10.1 rebounds 3.5 assists, 1.9 blocks and 0.5 steals per postseason contest.
On Friday night, he was presented with his orange Hall of Fame jacket in front of fellow inductees Dirk Nowitzki and Dwyane Wade. His younger brother, one-time Laker Marc Gasol, had a front row seat to the proceedings.
The six-time All-Star and four-time All-NBA honoree enjoyed an 18-year league career. Beyond your Lakers, he also logged time with the Memphis Grizzlies, Chicago Bulls, San Antonio Spurs, Milwaukee Bucks and, technically, the Portland Trail Blazers, although foot issues impeded him from ever playing a game for Portland.
