Lakers News: Writer Intrigued By First Scheduled Rematch Between LA And West Rival

A good early-season test.

With the regular season just a month away, many Los Angeles Lakers fans are looking ahead to their opening night showdown between them and the Denver Nuggets, the 2023 NBA champs. 

Though that marquee matchup will open up the entire year, a later game against another formidable Western foe will also have some eyebrows raised further into the season.

Dallas at Los Angeles Lakers, 10:30 ET

 

This matchup delivered some standout games from last season, as the final three games were all decided by four points or less and went as follows: a double-overtime classic that saw Luka Doncic hit clutch 3-pointers to force overtime and finish with a 35-14-13 triple-double in a Dallas win; the Lakers pulling off a 27-point comeback behind a combined 56 points from LeBron James and Anthony Davis; Maxi Kleber delivering a game-winning 3-pointer at the buzzer. What will these two teams do when they meet for the first time this season?

Pairing Luka Doncic and Kyrie Irving against the likes of Lebron James and Anthony Davis on the court is always a great show and even the past few years have given fans of both teams some great memories. 

On the road, Austin Reaves first made a name for himself on a nationally televised game by hitting a late three pointer on the right wing to secure a late win for LA in 2021. 

Maxi Kleber last season returned the favor by hitting a buzzer beating three last year to earn Dallas the victory in a bit of revenge from that previous game. 

Whatever these two teams have in store, we'll be sure to watch with wonder and excitement as we always have.
