Lakers News: Writer Explains How League Sees Rob Pelinka's Offseason Moves So Far
Los Angeles Lakers team vice president of basketball operations/general manager Rob Pelinka has enjoyed a pretty solid offseason thus far.
He re-signed starting shooting guard Austin Reaves to a four-year, $53.8 million deal and (possibly starting?) power forward Rui Hachimura to a three-year, $51 million agreement. He also inked ex-Miami Heat point guard Gabe Vincent (three years, $33 million) and former Minnesota Timberwolves combo forward Taurean Prince (one year, $4.5 million) to team-friendly deal, in addition to taking flyers on athletic recent lottery picks Cam Reddish and Jaxson Hayes, both whom were signed to veteran's minimum deals.
After checking out the temperature of the NBA in Las Vegas' Summer League action, J. Kyle Mann of The Ringer has reported that Pelinka is not particularly well-loved among his peers, in part because he oversees the NBA's premiere franchise.
"Because of the Lakers’ inherent advantages and long history of winning, naturally, the one area they can’t win is in the dialogue with the rest of the league," Mann writes. "When times are good and their front office kills it, there’s a vibe of begrudging credit in the broader discourse. It’s just funny to observe, that’s all."
"After re-signing Austin Reaves (confirmed playoff-level dude) and D’Angelo Russell (whom I don’t really have much to say about) and adding Gabe Vincent, the credible backcourt depth for this team isn’t extensive, but it should be fine. Coming off a surprise trip to the conference finals, Rob Pelinka has got to be flying high," Mann concludes.
