Franz Wagner Injury Update: Magic SF Returning for Germany?

Orlando Magic forward Franz Wagner suffered an injury in Germany's FIBA World Cup opener. Will his ankle keep him out for long?
In this story:

Orlando Magic forward Franz Wagner gave fans and his fellow countrymen a scare on Friday in their FIBA World Cup opener.

With a few minutes to go, Wagner suffered an ankle injury and left the game prematurely in the team's 81-63 win against Japan. And with a quick 48-hour turnaround before the team's next game against Australia, Wagner needed a quick prognosis on the ankle.

Luckily for the Magic and Germany, it appears Wagner has avoided major injury.

"We were able to rule out serious injuries. Nothing is broken, torn, or anything like this -- things that would end the FIBA World Cup for him," team doctor Oliver Putz said via BasketNews.

"Franz feels better this morning than yesterday. We did another MRI this morning. But the problem is that we don't have the imaging yet. So we can't say exactly what's hurt yet."

The team is currently in Japan and the international coordination on injuries makes it a little more challenging to figure out exactly what Wagner's injury looks like.

"We won't get the CD with the images until this afternoon," Putz said. "It's a bit unfortunate how it's organized here. And then we have to send the images to a radiologist in Germany so that he can tell us what's going on there. Because there are no radiologists here who can give us information."

Wagner is set to practice today on a limited basis and remains questionable for the game against Australia, which tips off at 4:30 a.m. on ESPN+.
