NBA Draft: Magic Fit for Cason Wallace at No. 11?
The Orlando Magic currently holds the No. 11 pick in the NBA Draft. Among the players that could be atop its big board when the team could be on the clock is Kentucky point guard Cason Wallace.
In 32 games as a freshman, Wallace averaged 11.7 points, 3.7 rebounds, 4.3 assists, and 2.0 steals per game while shooting just under 35 percent from 3-point range in 32 minutes per game.
Wallace is a combo guard who specializes on the defensive end. Point blank, Wallace hounds his opponents up and down the floor. His 6-foot-8 wingspan gives him the ability to defend bigger wings with his elite instincts and toughness.
Offensively, Wallace has shown flashes of being knockdown shooter from outside and having the ability to get open as an off-ball guard. With continued work on his handle and comfort as a lead playmaker, Wallace can become a very well-rounded offensive threat.
If Wallace were to come to Orlando, his role would be unclear. With Markelle Fultz, Jalen Suggs and Cole Anthony in the guard rotation, minutes may be hard to come by at first for the former Kentucky Wildcat. But there isn't a solidified long-term solution at the position ... Fultz and Anthony are free agents following the 2023-24 season.
Wallace may be a multi-year project if the Magic selects him as the No. 11 pick in this year's draft, but his raw talent may be too hard to pass up on.
