NBA Free Agency: Magic 'In Play' for Heat SG Max Strus

The Orlando Magic could be one of the teams looking to sign Miami Heat guard Max Strus.

ORLANDO - The Orlando Magic could be a finalist for one of the top shooters on the free agent market.

According to Yahoo! Sports, the Magic is "in play" to sign Miami Heat shooting guard Max Strus in free agency.

Strus, 27, averaged a career-high 11.5 points per game this past season with the Heat and made 35 percent of his shots from beyond the arc. 

The Magic has a lot of money to spend in free agency this summer, and it's possible that the team will use at least part of that $22 million in cap space will go towards three-point shooters, considering that's a department the Magic needs to improve in.

“Every team is looking at shooting these days — it’s just become too important part of the game,” Magic president of basketball operations Jeff Weltman said via Khobi Price of the Orlando Sentinel. “For sure, we need to get better shooting the ball. But that can come from a lot of different avenues. That can come from internal growth over the summer, working individually with our players. It could come from the draft. It could come from discussions with other teams. It could come from shot selection. These are all parts of a growing team."

As a team, Orlando shot 47 percent from the field, good for 20th in the NBA. From beyond the three-point line, the Magic shot just 34.7 percent, which ranked them 24th in the league. Adding Strus would likely improve Orlando's numbers in that department, which is why it makes sense for the Heat shooting guard to take the drive up north and join the Magic this summer.

NBA free agency starts Friday at 6 p.m.
