Rookie Anthony Black 'Super Excited' to Join Magic

Anthony Black joins an ascending roster after being taken with the No. 6 pick in the 2023 NBA Draft by the Orlando Magic.

ORLANDO - The Orlando Magic added to its young core on June 22 by taking guards Anthony Black and Jett Howard in the 2023 NFL Draft.

For Black, the opportunity to join an ascending roster has him chomping at the bit.

"I'm super excited," Black said. "There's a lot of talent on the floor, a lot of young dudes. It'll be a fun team, for sure."

Black will see the court as a member of the Magic for the first time in the Las Vegas Summer League, which begins on July 8.

Black adds much-needed versatility for Orlando. His well-rounded ability was on full display in his freshman season at Arkansas. Black, who was an all-SEC freshman, was the only player in his conference to finish top 25 in scoring (12.78), rebounding (5.06), assists (3.92), steals (2.06) and blocked shots (0.61).

"With elite size for a guard, Black has the perfect build for the modern NBA," SI writes. "He’s a natural lead guard that can also play off ball on the wing. He’s the ideal prospect for the positionless game that the NBA is trending towards. Black is a player that relies more on skill than athleticism."

There is no guarantee Black will see significant playing time in his rookie season. But if his versatility in college can carry over to the pro ranks, Black will go from being very excited to join the team to becoming a part of the engine that makes them go.
