Potential Magic Pick Brandon Miller Delivers Gun Used in January Shooting
ORLANDO - The top of the 2023 NBA Draft could be due for a shakeup.
Alabama freshman standout Brandon Miller, a projected top-5 pick in this year's draft, brought the gun used in the killing of a woman near campus in January, according to Tuscaloosa police testimony on Tuesday.
Miles admitted in court during Tuesday's preliminary hearings that Miller brought the handgun used in the killing of 23-year-old Jamae Harris, but the projected lottery pick did not pull the trigger.
Former Crimson Tide teammate Darius Miles and 20-year-old Michael Davis are facing capital murder charges for the January shooting.
Miller will not face any criminal charges or disciplinary action from the team, according to Alabama head coach Nate Oats.
"Brandon hasn’t been in any type of trouble, nor is he in any type of trouble in this case," Oats said during a press conference Tuesday. "He was in the wrong spot at the wrong time."
“There’s nothing we could charge him with,’' according to the law, Tuscaloosa chief deputy D.A. Paula Whitley said.
Miller is averaging 18.7 points and eight rebounds in his freshman campaign for No. 2 ranked Alabama (23-4).
In a recent mock draft done by Bleacher Report, the Orlando Magic, who could own two top-10 picks in this years NBA draft, might be a potential destination for the Crimson Tide product if he declares.
"Miller would seem like an obvious target for the Magic with his positional size and shooting," Bleacher Report writes. "Though he's had some off games lately from three, he's yet to hit a real cold streak or slump, and he's started to mix in tougher finishes around the basket."
