Which Magic Player Will Have 'Unexpected Breakout'?
.The Orlando Magic's playoff hopes rest on the growth of their young roster.
But who will make the biggest jump?
Bleacher Report listed Orlando as a team people should be talking about after how they finished last season. Along with saying the Magic should get more recognition, they named guard Markelle Fultz and power forwards Wendell Carter Jr. and Franz Wagner among the players who can have a big year in 2023-24.
"Franz Wagner, Wendell Carter Jr. and Markelle Fultz are all trending in the right direction, and the Magic have so much upside scattered throughout the roster that someone will surely experience an unexpected breakout," Bleacher Report writes.
Bleacher Report also noted guards Jalen Suggs and rookie Anthony Black and their ability to impact the game offensively and defensively.
There's no disputing Fultz's importance to Orlando. They were 5-17 in games he didn't play in compared to 29-31 when he did suit up. Fultz also set career highs in points (14) and assists (5.7) per game last season.
Carter also scored a career-best 15.2 points per game and shot 35.6 percent from three, the second-best in his career. He could also get more opportunities near the rim and beyond the arc thanks to Black's ability to pass the rock.
Wagner made a big jump both in his ability to score and his efficiency in his second season. The second-year forward averaged 18.6 points per game, shooting 48.5 percent from the field and 36.1 percent from three, improving in each category compared to his rookie season.
If the Magic are going to be a playoff team, they'll need each of the three players to step up. But if there's one player best positioned to have a breakout season, it's hard to look past Wagner. With the growth Wagner has made in his first two seasons and his ability to stay on the court, it's not hard to be excited about what he can do in year three of his career.
