Magic's Cole Anthony to Next Generation - 'Know That I'm Here!'
ORLANDO - Orlando Magic guard Cole Anthony is trying to help the next generation of basketball players thrive both on and off the court.
"I just want to extend the olive branch and be a resource and let them know that I'm here," Anthony told SNY.
Anthony hosted an event on Aug. 24 in the South Bronx called "The Playbook" where he invited some of the areas top high school basketball players to participate. The purpose of the event was to help the next generation of players prepare for the complicated world of basketball and the financial aspect that comes along with it.
In addition to the players and their parents, the event was also attended by some of the best financial people at Morgan Stanley, who helped Anthony with the financial portion of the discussion.
While he was born in Portland, Oregon, Anthony grew up in New York, and wanted to give back to the community that helped him get to where he is today. He intends to make sure that "The Playbook" is not a one time event, but something that will exist to help young basketball players in the area for years to come.
"We hope to do this for many years," Anthony said. "...I kind of found my own way and now I want to do my part and try to help these kids out, try to answer questions, try to be a pseudo big brother figure for them."
Anthony is about to start his fourth season for the Magic after Orlando drafted him in the first round of the 2020 NBA Draft. For his career, he averages 14.2 points per game, 5.0 rebounds per game and 4.6 assists per game.
