Roommates Reunited: Magic's 'Jett Black' Duo Teaming Up in Orlando

Can Orlando Magic draftees Anthony Black and Jett Howard continue their success from the Iverson Classic in the NBA?
In this story:

ORLANDO - On Thursday night, the Orlando Magic used a pair of lottery picks on Anthony Black and Jett Howard, two players that were once roommates during the Iverson Classic, an All-American showcase for high school hoopers.

Coming out of high school, both played for Team Honor in the Iverson Classic, where Howard would earn MVP honors for his 20-point performance, which helped lead the team to a 120-110 victory over Charlotte Hornets No. 2 overall pick Brandon Miller's Team Loyalty.

Following the news that they'd both be suiting up for Orlando to begin their careers, each reflected on the relationship they formed before college.

"We basically met at the Iverson Classic like a year ago," Black said. "I could just tell it was going to be somebody I was cool with just based off of like how competitive he was. And, uh, yeah, I mean, it's cool to have another person with me."

"AB was my roommate at Iverson Classic, and then our relationship just took off from there," Howard said. "We were going at it that whole week. So it's just like, it's good in the comfort level. I feel like when I'm comfortable; I play my best basketball. So just that factor is important."

The Magic organization faced scrutiny from some fans for selecting Black and Howard over more well-known college prospects. Luckily the 'Jett Black' rookie duo will have each other's backs as they try to win fans over in 2023.

'Jett Black' will have their first opportunity to sway Orlando fans when they play in Las Vegas on July 8 for the NBA Summer League.
