ORLANDO - Orlando Magic star forward Franz Wagner spoke about winning the 2023 FIBA World Cup for Germany with his brother as a teammate. 

"It's special, special to have our parents here too." Wagner said. "It's just so surreal. It doesn't make sense that we're both on this team and we can enjoy it together. We're gonna have a good night.

In the final game against Serbia, Wagner earned Player of the Game with his performance, recording 19 points, seven rebounds and three steals in a 83-77 win

Wagner averaged 16.8 points per game, 6.5 rebounds per game and 3.0 assists per game along with 1.3 steals per game throughout the tournament for Germany, helping to deliver its first gold medal in the FIBA World Cup. 

The 22-year-old Magic phenom was named to the All-Second Team of the FIBA World Cup for his performance in the tournament. His German teammate Dennis Schröder was named to the All-First Team and won Most Valuable Player of the entire World Cup. 

His older brother, Moritz Wagner, is his teammate not only on the German National Team, but on the Orlando Magic as well. The senior Wagner also contributed heavily to Germany's championship run at the FIBA World Cup. 

He played 17.6 minutes per game across eight tournament games, averaging 11.9 points, 4.8 rebounds and 1.4 assists per game.

The Wagner brothers helped Germany go undefeated on its way to winning gold and the title of World Champions. They'll return to NBA action when the preseason begins and Orlando plays the New Orleans Pelicans on the road on Oct. 10 at 8 p.m.
