Osceola Magic to Make G League History in Opener vs. Texas Legends
ORLANDO - History will be made this Thursday when the Osceola Magic play the team's first home game against the Texas Legends.
The Orlando Magic's G-league affiliate was based in Lakeland from the 2017-18 season until this year when the team relocated to Osceola. Thursday, the team will play its first game at Silver Spurs Arena in Heritage Park.
So far, the Magic is off to a slow start, going winless on the team's first two games on the road, but that doesn't mean there haven't been bright spots.
In Osceola's last game against the Austin Spurs, Brandon Williams scored 38 points, had four assists, and three rebounds. It was the G-league veteran's ninth career game, scoring at least 30 points, and the second-highest-scoring game of his career. Through two games, Williams has scored an average of 29.5 points per game.
Luckily, Williams isn't shouldering the scoring load by himself. Mac McClung has also been putting up points in his first season with the Magic. McClung is most well known for winning the NBA Dunk Competition in last year's NBA All-Star game as a member of the Philadelphia 76ers, but he's looked like more than just a dunk champion with the Magic so far.
Through the team's first two games, McClung has averaged 19.5 points, 4.5 rebounds, and four assists. If he and Williams can continue to shine offensively, then the team is just a strong defensive outing away from getting its first win in the Osceola home opener.
As for the 1-1 Texas Legends, which are the Dallas Mavericks G-League affiliate, the highest scorers for the team have been guard A.J. Lawson [26 points and seven rebounds] and veteran forward Justin Jackson [18.5 points and six rebounds], who has 278 NBA games of experience under his belt.
Win or lose, Thursday's game will be historic for the Magic as they usher in a new era in Osceola.
